and data protection products and enables network administrators to restore data
to a point in time when the data was still consistent, accurate and usable.
VSS shadow technology for improved data protection
Neverfail Data Rollback runs directly on top of Neverfail Heartbeat, and utilizes
the Microsoft® Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) technology to provide an efficient
application/data restoration and retrieval mechanism. By taking shadow copies of
a secondary, passive server, Neverfail avoids the typical “freezing”
of an application that VSS would normally incur on a production system, and thus
permits more frequent shadowing than in a single-server topology.
More frequent shadowing means greater granularity. Up to 512 snapshots can be stored
at any one time in an ultra-efficient format that only needs to keep track of differences
between snapshots. When a rollback is required, Neverfail's unique knowledge of
the application environment — including which application files and registry
settings require rollback protection — permits efficient restoration of only
the required application data from shadow copies, rather than an entire volume.
Protecting Data from Corruption with Neverfail Data Rollback

console, providing a single interface for all of your

needs. Administrators can use the interface to customize their own snapshot schedules,
allowing them to decide for how long each snapshot should be saved. For example,
you might decide to save all snapshots for the last week's worth of data, but only
keep daily snapshots for older data. Then if data corruption does occur, administrators
can roll back to any of these snapshot points with the simple click of a button.
